Dialogue forums 2012: "Power and influence –Who controls the world's destiny?"Civil unrest and liberation movements in the Arab world, nuclear meltdowns in Fukushima, Germany's decision to phase out nuclear power, debt crises and emerging global players – issues are developing quickly in the media and social networks, in politics, supranational organisations and the business community. The world order is undergoing profound changes. As we are living through a period of global upheaval, what is the impact at the political, economic and social level? What role do resources play, what is the influence of new media – and how should we deal with this personally? Who controls the world's destiny? How are power structures adapted to reflect new realities? What is the future direction of the economy? How will Facebook, Twitter and others alter collective co-determination and decision-making processes? And are our personal lifestyles suited to a rapidly changing world? These are some of the issues the Munich Re Foundation's 2012 dialogue forums will be tackling. In a series of five evening events entitled "Power and influence – Who controls the world's destiny?" leading politicians, journalists and researchers will be discussing current challenges and outlining possible solutions. Our dialogue forums begin on 3 February 2012. Registration starts on 01 November 2011. Please register here.
