Focus and content of the field trip The field trip provides an opportunity to learn and understand the practice of microinsurance in an Indian context, building on the two-day conference in Mumbai. The first-hand experience of interacting with clients and exposure to the operational aspects of implementing the microinsurance products and programme in the field will offer greater insights into the subject. As part of the visit, participants will also have the opportunity to mix with officials of insurance companies, senior staff of the DHAN Foundation, People Mutuals and ASKMI (Asian Knowledge Centre for Mutual Insurance) and learn from their experience. The field trip will include a visit to the famous temple of the Goddess Meenkshi in the ancient city of Madurai. Date and venue Two days – 16 and 17 November 2007 – at Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The number of participants will be limited. LogisticsParticipants are expected to take two clear days for the field trip. It will require travel between Mumbai and Madurai by air (taking the morning Indian Airlines flight and reaching Madurai by noon; staying one night at Madurai; returning next afternoon on Indian Airlines flight to Mumbai, landing that evening). Air travel to Madurai and back needs to be booked by the participants themselves. The local logistics of the stay, food, field visits and sightseeing at Madurai will be organised by the DHAN Foundation. Cost of participating in the field trip:US$ 200 per participant for stay, food, field visits, materials and sightseeing.
