About Sampada TrustSampada Trust, which is the sister concern of Watershed Organization Trust (WOTR), was registered on 21st of November 2002 under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. The main objective of this trust has been the socio-economic empowerment of rural women through financial, technical and other support. The Trust which was previously working as the micro-finance unit of WOTR was given a separate identity for taking up SHG promotion and micro finance. In 1998, WOTR started its microfinance activities with a credit of Rs.32, 000 to a Self-Help Group (SHG) of 20 women. And this initiative has bloomed into a full-fledged organization with a legal entity of its own. Sampada Trust basically caters to those credit needs of women that are related to agriculture, individual and group based income generation activities and also addressing their small consumption requirements. For meeting these needs they offer three kinds of loan products; Seasonal loan, Short Term loan and Medium Term loan. The Seasonal loan product addresses the agricultural and consumption-related needs of the individual, while Short Term and Medium Term loans cater to the small and medium income generation needs of the people. Currently, Sampada addresses the credit needs of approximately 15000 women across 18 districts of Maharashtra belonging to the backward regions like Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of North-West Maharashtra. Sampada’s association with ICICI group has begun in 2005 July. Since then it has insured about 25000 lives. The primary objective of the organization to enter the association was to mitigate the risk associated with the loan portfolio and for the members it was to cover the risks associated with uncertainties of life. |
