Jose Carlos Gomez, SBS, PeruJose Carlos Gomez is - on behalf of the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds Administrators of Peru (SBS) – the principal insurance analyst of the Insurance and Pensions Department at the Economic Studies Division of the SBS. As an experienced analyst in insurance, he has significantly contributed to the microinsurance project in Peru, participating in the multidisciplinary team who designed the microinsurance regulatory framework for this country. Since 2000, Mr. Gomez has been working hardly in insurance issues at the SBS, making big contributions on the benefit of both, consumers and private sector stakeholders in Peru. He has been involved in the most important Committees related to Peruvian insurance system such as Mortality Tables Committee, International Financial Reporting Standards Committee, and Solvency II Committee. In 2006, the SBS set the grounds for the Peruvian microinsurance plan. As part of this project, Mr. Gomez was involved in a multidisciplinary team aimed at improving the difficult economic situation of needed Peruvian people. In particular, he analyzed the lack of adequate coverage against risks of low-income segments, realizing that the social security issue demands an effective public policy that encourages insurers to include low-income households in the formal insurance business. |
