David Dror, Micro Insurance Academy, India

David M. Dror is the Chairman of the Micro Insurance Academy (MIA), a Delhi-based charitable trust dedicated to training in insurance domain knowledge, studies and advisory services for microinsurance units serving the poor. David is also honorary professor of health insurance at Erasmus University Rotterdam (Netherlands).
Prior to that he was with the ILO Social Protection Sector. Dr. Dror developed the concept of linking community-based groups with reinsurance, published by World Bank and ILO in the benchmark book Social Re Insurance: A New Approach to Sustainable Community Health Financing (edited jointly with A. Preker). Dr. Dror has done much field research in low-income countries, and presented his findings publicly and through more than 60 publications.
The Micro Insurance Academy, is the first pillar of the Social Re project. The second is a new facility offering context-specific insurance solutions to the risks of microschemes at affordable premiums, through a process that they trust. And the third pillar consists of delivering technical support services to micro insurance units, which will go live with when the insurance is rolled-out. Dr. Dror holds a DBA (Magna cum Laude) and a PhD (Summa cum Laude), and is an internationally recognized authority in micro insurance.
