Microinsurance

In October 2015, the World Bank projected for the first-time, that the number of people living in extreme poverty was expected to have fallen below ten percent. Despite this progress, the number of people living in extreme poverty globally remains unacceptably high. Still over 2 billion people lived from around 3 US$ a day in 2012*.

Growth of the global economy alone will not be enough to combat poverty in the developing countries. What is needed are project-related financial donations and sustained initiatives that will enable people to help themselves. With its projects, the Munich Re Foundation has set itself the target of making a contribution to the millennium goal of eradicating poverty.
