The foundation’s projects during the Corona period –
International Conference on Inclusive Insurance 2020 - Digital Edition
The title already reveals it: ICII will also be held in 2020 - in a digital format. We are working flat out on the composition of the 18th online sessions and will offer a top-class programme from 2 to 6 November together with our project partners. Further information can be found here.
Learning Sessions on Inclusive Insurance
Already planned learning Sessions in Mozambique, Fiji and in cooperation with the GIZ-MEFIN programme had to be cancelled or postponed. The "Insurance for Development" training programme sponsored by the Munich Re Foundation and others has been converted into an online course lasting several weeks, which will take place in September and October 2020. Disaster risk reduction
RISK Award 2021
The launch of the RISK Award 2021 will take place as planned. The new topic will be announced on 13 October 2020 (International Day for Disaster Reduction) together with the United Nations (UNDRR). This synchronises with the start of the application phase. The new award winner will be announced in May 2021. The framework for the award ceremony is still open. You can find more information here.
RISK Award 2019 - Floating Homes in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is severely affected by the corona wave. The communities in rural areas are trying to close themselves off and avoid visitors. Unfortunately, this also applies to our Floating Homes project team. Together with our partners from Dundee University and Resilience Solutions in Bangladesh, we have agreed to resume work on the ground when the security situation in the country permits. You can find more information here.
Climate change and education
Summer Academy 2020
Originally, the Summer Academy on Social Security Systems and Climate Change was planned for September 2020 in Jakarta, Indonesia. A face-to-face event is currently not possible. We are working at full blast on an alternative digital format. In September we will offer a series of online seminars, some of which will be open to the public. The first one will take place on 15 September. Find out more here.
Dialogue Forums 2020
Unfortunately, we had to discontinue the Dialogue Forum series 2020 in March. By then, we had been able to hold three of the five events with our project partners – the German Energy Agency dena and the Mercator Research Institute MCC. As things stand at present, there are currently no plans to repeat the cancelled events. Click here to find out more.
Dialogue Forums 2021
The preparations running. We are determined to organise an exciting and appealing series. In order to remain flexible, the planning moves on multiple fronts: we are currently organising face-to-face events, but can also offer hybrid models. Depending on the situation, we will completely forego on-site visits and organize a purely digital format in the worst case. We will soon publish more information here.
Cooperation with universities
All events are carried out virtually. We have quickly adapted to the digital environment and have successfully conducted project seminar weeks, lectures and expert seminars at three universities (Eberswalde, Erlangen and Munich). You can find more information about the individual offers here.
Energy School Munich
Unfortunately, the workshops organised by Green City cannot take place this summer as usual in Munich schools. As an alternative, teachers and students can download videos, worksheets and puzzles on energy and sustainable lifestyles. In addition, teaching materials such as energy measuring devices or solar toys can be borrowed from Green City. Click here to find out more.
PAREMIA - Partnerships for climate protection
Originally, we planned to publish the PAREMIA study together with Germanwatch in the first half of the year. However, due to travel restrictions by Covid-19 and other prioritisations in many ministries worldwide, the interviews and empirical surveys could not be completed in time. Therefore, the publication of the results has been delayed by several months. News will be published here.
Fog nets Bolivia
In autumn 2019 we launched a new fog net project. The material for 14 new fog collectors is available in the project area since February 2020. Unfortunately, the work had to be interrupted, as the restrictions due to Covid-19 make the project work on-site hardly possible. Together with our partners WasserStiftung and Zabalketa we have agreed to a project break. News about the re-launch will soon be published here.
