Climate change is already reshaping the world of work. Heatwaves are placing growing strain on millions of workplaces. Rising temperatures affect both physical and cognitive performance, reducing concentration and increasing the risk of accidents. Studies show measurable declines in performance at temperatures as low as 25°C. With every additional degree, productivity continues to fall, while errors and workplace incidents become more frequent.

Those working predominantly outdoors – for example in agriculture, construction and logistics – are particularly affected. Yet even in indoor environments, including air-conditioned offices, prolonged heat is pushing working conditions to their limits. At the same time, the economic impact is becoming increasingly apparent: estimates suggest that a single hot day can cost the German economy nearly half a billion euros.

What does this mean for the future of work in a changing climate?

As part of the exhibition “Planetary Health – At the Pulse of People and Planet” at the Deutsches Museum, our Dialogue Forum brings together experts from politics, science, business and trade unions to explore these questions.

Which sectors and professions are most affected by climate change, and how can workers be better protected? What does it mean for companies to integrate occupational safety and climate action, and where are the opportunities for forward-looking approaches to employee wellbeing? Do existing regulatory frameworks need to evolve to ensure adequate protection?

Join the discussion, share your perspectives, and bring your questions.
