Inclusive insurance is an important means of enabling sustainable economic development and encouraging investment in SMEs, as well as increasing the purchasing power of individual consumers. Although China is the second largest insurance market in the world, it lags behind the world average in terms of insurance penetration and density. Current macro dynamics and geopolitical tensions further challenge the growth and development of the insurance market, as well as insurance inclusivity for specific populations in China.
In June 2024, China's National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA) issued the Guiding Opinions on Promoting the High-Quality Development of Inclusive Insurance, the first institutional guidance on inclusive insurance in China. Nevertheless, China began exploring policy-based agricultural insurance as early as 2006, and in 2008 and 2012 respectively, micro-insurance in rural and urban regions were introduced, which are recognised as version 1.0 of inclusive insurance. To date, a number of innovative products and business models have been developed to reach more cohorts and reduce the insurance gap. Thus, inclusive insurance is recognised as a means of improving social stability and supporting broad-based economic development.
At this conference in China, experts from China and other markets will discuss ways to accelerate innovation and scale in inclusive insurance, particularly focusing on how to measure high-quality development. The aim of this conference, which is being held in China, is to facilitate mutual understanding between domestic and international stakeholders, particularly by sharing China's and other countries' experiences in this field.
